Best Autoflower Seeds for Total Noobs (From a Crusty Old Grower)
Look, I’ve been growing in my basement since before half yall were born, and lemme tell you – autoflowers aint what they used to be. Back in teh day, autos were straight garbage. Tiny yields, weak smoke, unstable genetics that’d make a poodle breeder cry. But damn… times have changed.
So here’s the deal. After helping like a bazillion first-timers on various forums (and screwing up plenty of my own grows), I got a pretty good handle on which auto strains actually work for beginners. And I mean ACTUALLY work, not that marketing bullshit the seed banks push.
Northern Lights Auto – The OG Easy Mode
I dont care what anybody says, Northern Lights Auto is still the king for noobs. Its like the Honda Civic of weed – reliable af, hard to kill, and gets the job done. My first auto run was NL and even tho I totally fucked up the nutrients and had my lights way too close, still pulled 2 ounces off each plant.
Quick story – my dumbass neighbor tried growing these in miracle gro (yeah yeah I know) and STILL got smokeable bud. That’s how forgiving these genes are. You can find solid NL auto seeds at most places but I usually grab mine from here when they’re in stock.
Blue Dream Auto – For When You Need a Win
So check this out. My dog knocked over my tent last year (don’t ask…) and the only seeds I had left were some Blue Dream autos. Holy shit am I glad that happened. These things grew like they were on steroids, even with all the stress from the tent disaster. And the yield? Bruh.

But here’s the thing with BD autos – you gotta watch the humidity. I learned that one the hard way when I lost half a plant to bud rot cause I was being lazy with my dehumidifier. Still pulled 4 zips off the other one tho!
Zkittlez Auto – Don’t Sleep On This One
Yall gonna think I’m crazy but for real, Zkittlez auto is lowkey perfect for beginners. The only reason more people dont start with it is cause it’s newer and costs more than some others. But lemme tell you bout my last run…
So I had this janky ass setup in my garage with some ancient blurple LEDs (judge me all you want), and these girls still came through. The terps were insane – like straight up candy store in there. My wife thought I was hiding skittles in the tent lmao.

White Widow Auto – Old School Cool
Look, I know everybody and their grandma recommends White Widow. But there’s a damn good reason for that. These genetics been tested more times than a freshman during finals week. You can find good WW auto seeds right here usually.
Funny story – I once grew these in my crawl space (desperate times…) with just a couple CFLs and basic nutrients from the hardware store. Still got like an ounce and a half per plant. Not amazing but hey, for that ghetto setup? I’ll take it.
Girl Scout Cookies Auto – If You Wanna Get Fancy
Now listen up cause this is important – GSC auto ain’t quite as easy as the others. But I’m putting it on the list cause I’ve seen so many beginners crush it with these. The key is getting good genetics tho. I learned that lesson after buying some sketchy seeds off some dude at a festival (yeah yeah I know, I was drunk).
You can grab legit GSC auto seeds from this seedbank – just make sure you got decent lights. That $30 Amazon special aint gonna cut it here.
Gorilla Glue Auto – The Sticky Icky
So this one time I was running some Gorilla Glue autos and my trimming scissors got so gunked up I had to throw them away. Not even kidding. These things produce resin like they’re trying to single-handedly supply the whole concentrate market.
But here’s why they’re good for beginners – they’re tough as hell. I’ve seen these bounce back from nitrogen toxicity that woulda killed lesser strains. Just don’t get carried away with the nutrients. Ask me how I know…

Pro Tips From Someone Who’s Failed A Lot
- Don’t try to train autos in the first 2 weeks. I learned that one the hard way when I snapped my whole crop trying to do some fancy LST.
- Get a pH meter that actually works. That $10 one from Amazon is lying to you. Trust.
- Start with 3 gallon pots minimum. I tried those tiny 1 gallon pots once and ended up with plants shorter than my phone.
- For real tho, don’t overthink the nutrients. I killed so many plants trying to follow those complicated feeding schedules.
And look, here’s the most important thing – don’t get discouraged if your first grow ain’t perfect. My first auto run was straight trash. Like, embarrassingly bad. Had these sad little plants that looked like Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree. But you learn from that shit.
These days I got my setup dialed in pretty nice – running a mix of photos and autos in my basement setup. Got some crazy cross I’m working on with Northern Lights auto and something else (pretty sure it was GSC but honestly I was pretty baked when I did that pollen collection). The first batch came out weird as hell but the second generation is looking proper fire.
Anyway, grab some seeds from a legit seedbank and just dive in. Worst case scenario, you kill some plants and learn something. Best case? You’re swimming in more bud than you know what to do with. Ask me how I know about that too…
