My Experience Growing High THC Cannabis Strains (Holy Shit These Are Strong)
Look, I been growing the dank stuff in my basement for like 15 years now, and lemme tell ya – these new super-potent strains are somethin else. Back in teh day we thought 15% THC was strong. Now these seed companies are pushin stuff that hits 30% and I cant even believe it sometimes.
So last year I decided to try my hand at some of these crazy new genetics. Got myself a pack of GMO Cookies seeds that was supposed to hit 32% THC. Damn near shit myself when I saw the lab results. But here’s the thing – getting those numbers aint easy. You gotta dial everything in perfect.
My Recent Adventures with Super-Potent Strains
First run with the GMO was rough ngl. Burned the hell outta them with too much CalMag (rookie mistake even after all these years lol). But the second run? Holy mother of god. The frost on those nugs was insane. Like someone dumped a bunch of sugar all over em. My buddy Steve came over and literally just stared at them for 20 minutes straight.
After that I went kinda nuts ordering all these supposedly ultra-strong strains. Got some G13 Haze that was claiming 29% THC. Some Bruce Banner #3 that supposedly hit 30%. Even grabbed some of that new Chemdawg 91 that everyone’s talking about.
But here’s wat I learned – them numbers are like… best case scenario type stuff. You need:
- Perfect environment control (my dehumidifier broke during week 6 once… never again)
- Top shelf genetics (dont buy from sketchy resellers ffs)
- Dialed in nutrients (I use FloraFlex but whatever works for u)
- Proper lighting (running 2 HLG 650Rs in my 5×5 rn)
And even then… sometimes shit just goes wrong. Had my dog knock over a whole plant two weeks before harvest last month. Still salty bout that one tbh.
The Strongest Strains I’ve Actually Grown
So after like 50 different strains, here’s the ones that actually impressed me with their strength (and I could consistently get good results with):
1. Future #1
This shit right here… omg. Future #1 consistently tests at 28-30% THC in my grows. Tastes like straight gas and pine trees had a baby. Grows like a beast too – just dont top it more than once or it gets mad stretchy. Found that out the hard way when one plant straight up grew into my light and burned itself.
2. Modified Grapes
Not as famous as some others but damn if this aint some of the strongest smoke I’ve ever had. Modified Grapes comes in around 27% THC usually. The terps are insane too – like grape gasoline if that makes any sense. Only downside is it’s kind of a pain to trim. So many sugar leaves.
One time I was trimming this strain and got so zooted just from the trichs on my fingers that I ordered $80 worth of Taco Bell. True story. My wife still gives me shit about it.
3. Ice Cream Cake
This one surprised me. Didn’t expect it to be as strong as it is but goddamn. Usually hits around 26-28% THC when I grow it right. The thing with ICC is you gotta keep temps perfect in late flower or the terps go weird. Lost a whole harvest to heat stress last summer when my AC died. Still bitter bout that one.
Speaking of AC… let me tell you about the time I tried running a portable unit in my tent. What a disaster that was. Had the exhaust hose pointed right at the carbon filter like an idiot. Whole basement smelled like straight chronic for weeks. Had to tell the mother-in-law we had a “skunk problem” when she visited. Pretty sure she didn’t buy it but whatever.
Tips for Growing High THC Strains
Look, if ur gonna try growing these super potent varieties, here’s what I learned the hard way:
- Don’t skimp on the lights. Seriously. I tried running some GMO under a blurple LED once… never again
- Get a good pH pen. The cheap ones are garbage. Trust me I went thru like 5 of em
- Watch ur humidity in late flower. These frosty bastards will mold if u look at em wrong
- Take it easy on the nutrients. These strains are usually pretty sensitive
And for real – don’t get too caught up in the THC numbers game. Some of the best smoke I’ve ever had tested at like 22%. It’s all about the overall effect ya know? Had some 30% stuff that just made me anxious af.
But if ur dead set on growing the strongest possible weed (and lets be real, who isn’t), just remember it takes time to dial everything in. Took me like 3 runs with that GMO before I got it right. First run was straight garbage – like schwag from the 90s. Second run was better but still not great. Third run? Fire. Absolute fire.
These days I mostly stick to a few strains I know I can grow well. Got my environment dialed in finally (only took 15 years lol). Running a sealed room with CO2 supplementation. Mini-split AC keeping temps perfect. Automated irrigation system that I built myself (after flooding my basement twice… don’t ask).
Still learning new shit every day tho. That’s the thing about growing – just when u think u got it figured out, something new comes along and humbles tf outta you. Like last week when I found out my pH pen was off by 0.5 for god knows how long. No wonder them plants were looking weird.
Anyway, if ur just starting out, maybe dont jump straight into these super strong varieties. Start with something more forgiving. Work ur way up. Trust me – ur wallet and ur sanity will thank you. And for gods sake buy a good pH pen. Still cant believe I trusted that $20 piece of garbage from Amazon for so long.
